Toyota’s new electric concept highlights the potential of BEV platforms for high-performance and motorsport applications.

Toyota has unveiled the bZ Time Attack Concept, its first battery-electric race car designed specifically for time attack and hill climb competitions. The debut took place during the 2025 SEMA Show in Las Vegas.
Based on the bZ AWD platform, the concept features electric motors delivering over 400 horsepower, all-wheel drive, and a comprehensive aerodynamic package that includes a rear wing, diffuser, side skirts, and front splitter. The model was engineered to push the limits of Toyota’s BEV technology in motorsport.

The body sits 6 inches lower than the production model and features a widened track for enhanced stability at high speeds. The TEIN suspension and Alcon braking system, paired with Hawk pads, were adapted from Toyota’s racing programs.
Inside, the concept is equipped with OMP HTE-R racing seats, OMP harnesses, and an FIA-approved roll cage—further emphasizing its performance-oriented nature.

The project combined laser scanning, CAD modeling, and 3D printing to produce highly precise aerodynamic components. The process, led by Toyota’s Add Lab in Kentucky, reduced prototyping time and enabled rapid adjustments throughout development.

According to Marty Schwerter, director of the Toyota Motorsports Technical Center, the goal was “to test the limits of the bZ platform in a real competition environment, balancing battery performance with aerodynamic efficiency.”

The bZ Time Attack Concept is part of Toyota’s broader strategy to expand its lineup of electric vehicles. For 2026, the company plans to introduce new bZ models, alongside the upcoming bZ Woodland and C-HR BEVs, further strengthening its fully electric portfolio.

The concept will be on display at the Las Vegas Convention Center from November 4 to 7, 2025, at the Toyota booth (Central Hall, No. 22200).
